Q&A: I want to be a Navy SEAL after college, but I have places in mind where I want to live, am I able to choose?
I want to live with some family down in North Shore, Oahu, in a smaller shack, surf when I am home, usual stuff that I love doing in life, which includes being a United States Navy SEAL. What are the restrictions on living areas? Does it matter which SEAL team I will be on? Just curious how much freedom I have on that.

Not going to happen. SEALs go where they are assigned. Oahu is very unlikely to be one of those places.

…you don’t just “join” the Navy SEALS ! You join the NAVY and after a few years you (might) be chosen for selection… (and) “if” you are selected for BUDS training you go EXACTLY where “they” tell you to go.
(and) “if” you can make it thru BUBS then you’ll be sent to SEAL training and again…you’ll go EXACTLY where “they” send you…

Stay in Hawaii and pick Pineapples, you’ll be much happier !

SEAL and choice of living assignments don’t collide in the same sentence. By choosing to be a SEAL, you are necessarily severely limiting your duty assignments as there are but a handful of SEAL teams around the US.

The selection process just to make it thru BUDS is extremely difficult, and the washout rate is over 60% Say you do make it through, the operational tempo is so high you will not be out surfing and hanging out with the family too much so you may want to more seriously consider what your ambitions in the military might be.

I can already tell that you shouldn’t join in the first place. Joining the military in general is so difficult for some people because you need to accept not living in the conditions of home. Seals especially. If you were motivated to join the Navy Seals because you played Call of Duty or some s***, forget about it. We want people who can get the job the nation needs done, not trying to get a bunch of video gamers into the military.

SEAL teams are stationed either in San Diego CA, or Little Creek Amphibious Base (now known as Joint Expeditionary Base Little Creek – Fort Story) in Virginia Beach VA. Those are you choices.IF you make the team.

On this part of your statement;

“You join the NAVY and after a few years you (might) be chosen for selection…”

Your Proctologist is trying to contact you……they found your head.

nope. SeALs have TWO duty stations: Coronado and Little Creek.

The term “freedom” and SEAL don’t generally appear in the same sentence except for the phrase “Seals defend freedom”. It would be hard to find an outfit that had less freedom. You go where they say go and do what they say do. No questions, no screwing around. Good luck, partner. You’ll need it!
