Excellent surfing on the Pacific. None on the Caribbean side.

Costa Rica has some of the best surfing in the world, anything from beach and reef breaks, to small and huge waves that the Caribbean has.
Many surf camps and tours. Check out some of the surfing links:

Hi Surfer Chica,
yes, Costa Rica has very good surfing conditions on the Pacific Coast. You might also wanna check out surfing north and south of San Juan del Sur in Nicaragua, which is about 45 minutes north of the Costa Rican border. Also, Nicaragua is way less expensive than Costa Rica. The best surfing in Central America though is probably in El Salvador.
Have a great time.
Surf’s up.

Costa Rica is great for surfing and boogie boarding too (for us scaredy cats). They have tournaments on the Caribbean side, but the Pacific side is just so much nicer for so many reasons. I really liked Montezuma in Nicoya, but it’s kind of out of the way. Good luck!

Costa Rica is great for surfing and not to big of waves. Although some day can blow up, but usually on the reef breaks. If you stick to the Guanacaste side, spots like Tamarindo and Playa Grande are good and sand breaks. Caribbean side does have waves but they are more challenging and reef breaks. Water is not supper Hawaii clear but very warm and plenty of places to rent boards.
