Question: Is learning to surf difficult?
I want to learn how to surf in Hawaii..I’ve been snowboarding… Is surfing basically like snowboarding except with water?? And if anyone has any suggestions for beginner beach locations on Oahu, I would greatly appreciate it.

The pictures have nothing to do with the content!!

Interesting that you want to wait until you get to Hawaii to learn. The US schools are all in their prime seasons now and there are many local places where you can learn to surf easily.
Before you go, take a look at the many learn to surf resources linked from the Surf Library. There you will find information on balance training, conditioning, and basic surf etiquette that you may or may not get from the school you take your lesson at.
In Hawaii, if you want to learn on a board similar to what you will end up buying, I suggest you contact Alysha surf school in Alamona. They teach on smaller and thinner boards then the schools at Queens.

Oahu got hit with a big South swell today (3-19-2010) and Point and China Wall were going off. The lineup had about 20 takers out there. It was well overhead on the sets. It was firing all along the coast.
