Q&A: Best tropical island for surf and fun?
I want to take a trip with my family over Christmas break to tropical island (like the Bahamas or Aruba or something) this year. I like to surf, but am not great and don’t want to go somewhere where the waves will crush me. What would be a good place to go that would be fun for the family and also have some decent surf?

I would recommend going to Punta Cana, the #1 tourist destination in the Caribbean. Plenty to do for yourself and the whole family, plus it’s very close to one of the best surfing locations in the Dominican Republic, Playa Macao (great for long boarders).

Um.. you do know that if you haven’t already made reservations for CHRISTMAS BREAK by now, it’s probably too late to get the good places. You also know that the prices can double during Christmas.. right? You also know you need a PASSPORT to go to any but the USVI and Puerto Rico and that a passport can take about 6 WEEKS to get. right?
As for where to go.. there are over 36 Caribbean islands and THOUSANDS of resorts to go to.. AND you know so LITTLE about the Caribbean and even the Bahamas that you don’t know or understand that EVERY island has something special to offer and that the “BEST TROPICAL ISLAND” is the one that offers what YOU want to do.
Arguably, the best surfing is on the West Coast of Puerto Rico (you can get a good fight going on this quesiton) but you are NOT going to find the kinds of waves you would expect in California.

Barbados is known for its surfing spot. Try that, they even give lessons, too.
