Q&A: Winter surf trip ideas…bringing wife and two kids under 4 yrs old.?
Anyone have suggestions for a decent warm water destinations where I can also bring the family during winter months — head high to few feet overhead preferred. Thinking Puerto Rico or Costa Rica? thoughts?

Costa Rica could be a great option. Depending on where you go, you can find several beaches close by with different wave forms/sizes. Plus, many of the beaches are great for people just hanging out on the beach or nearby in a hotel/vacation house.
Playa Grande or Langosta might be a good location. Tamarindo is nearby and has more going on, but might not be super for young kids. Beaches near all those places include Playa Avellanas and Playa Negra.

Rincon, Puerto Rico is a surfer’s paradise. They have great surfing, especially in the winter months. It’s very laid back and many americans live there & vacation there for the surfing. Its a great place for kids too. The public beach (balneario) has a play ground right on the beach for kids. Plus you can feel safe with your kids in PR, since its a US territory. The water and food are safe to consume. Check it out and see for yourself

Definentially COSTA RICA!!! My dad took me and my friends there and we had a blast!!! The people are friendly and there is a lot to do. There are lots of nice quiet places. Your wife will love it its very romantic. My buddy went there to surf last week for a month he loves it so much!
I would suggest going to Nosara, CR because within 30 i could take you to a black sand beach, 2 white sand beaches, a hidden beach, and also a beach with a secret little lagoon. its really a little piece of heaven on earth there.

Costa Rica can get epic in the wet season(north American Winter). It’s safe enough for the fam, just don’t let your guard down.
