    I) Chan Chan and Ballestas Islands. Knowledge of each: Chan Chan 6, Ballestas 4. Chan Chan is fascinating because it shows the intimate knowledge the pre-Incan peoples had of the sea. From the intricacies of the currents, including el niƱo, to the migrations of the fish. It also displays the great scale of organization in their government, and how they stockpiled resources from their different regions to prepare for drought, famine or war. Also, it displays how they adapted from a fishing culture to an agricultural culture with the increase in population. Finally, it displays the resistance that many contemporaneous cultures put up against Inca imperialism. The Chan Chan held off as long as they could, using their reserves of food and the upwelling of fresh water within their fort. The irony is that the Inca Empire lasted only a very short time after that until it fell to the Spaniards.

Ballestas is fascinating for another reason, purely natural. The variety of sea life there is reminiscent of the Galapagos, yet much more accessible and inexpensive to visit. The Candelabro is mysterious and fascinating, and the Reserva Paracas nearby has landscapes that invoke images taken from Mars. Plus, witnessing the region’s recovery from the 2007 earthquake is very interesting.

Where would I like to visit:
Amazonas and Marcahuasi, because those are the only two places on your list I don’t know. I’ve been to the Amazon in Ecuador, and didn’t like it very much because of the bugs and the heat, but Peru is a nicer place to be, so maybe it would be better there. Plus, it would be interesting to visit a shaman and experience the ayahuasco. You can give me a 6 in interest for each place.
