Q&A: Water safe to drink in Tamarindo, Costa Rica?
I am going on a surf trip to Tamarindo Costa Rica this month and want to know if the water is safe to ingest?

Costa Rica has some of the safest water to drink and I have never gotten sick from drinking it. And I have drank it in some strange places.
However, if you feel the need, drink bottled water, it is real cheap and a lot easier to carry around. Just about all the hotels stock it in your room, but they will charge you about double of what you can buy it for at the closest store.

Regardless of what anyone tells you, Do NOT drink water from anywhere in Latin America, not just Tamarindo, Costa Rica. Unfortunetely Latin American countries do not filter their running water (tap water), they do not have sewer treatment plants, so guess where their sewer lines (pipes) end up? In open waters, that means any body of water, rivers, lakes, ocean, etc.

Its funny that you are telling him/her not to drink the water… Tap water in Costa Rica is cleaner than tap water in the US. You will be completely safe drinking the water from the tap there is nothing to worry about. I’ve been living her for the past 21 years, and im yet to get sick from drinking it!
