Question: How do I lower the RAM usage on my computer?
I have Vista, and I was looking at some of the Sidebar Gadgets and I opened the “CPU Usage” Gadget. I was surprised by the amount of RAM being used, it was hovering at about 73% when I’m not doing anything, and in the 80%s on the internet, just surfing. Is there anyway to lower this? Do I just need to delete files ? Suggestions?

Deleting unneeded programs
also upgrading to maximum amount of RAM

Deleting FILES will be of no use.
Un-installing programs that you do not USE will.

Get more RAM!

i have the same problem. lol with 1 gb ram with vista home premium u just need more ram. to help speed up your pc get rid of the side bar.
the side bar not always that accurate usally about 5 to 10 % lower than is. hope this helps

I was also surprised when I found this out about Vista. Vista is
designed differently from earlier versions of Windows. It loads things
into RAM whether or not you ask it to so the application will open
faster if you do use it. So, if you used a program yesterday Vista will
load it into memory when you boot it today

The point is, unless you are experiencing performance problems, you really don’t have to do anything. The first things to try if you have performance problems are: ‘Adjust visual effects’ for better performance rather than appearance, turn off unused ‘services’ running on the computer, and disable unnecessary startup programs.

Then you look at adding more RAM, etc.
