Hi,I did the following:
Q&A: Technical Description on hotspot detection?
From a users point of view,I know that the computer will first scan for hotspots within their wireless signal range. The scans will then identify the SSID of the hotspot and allow the computer to set up a connection.
I wish to know about the more technical details, like how the scanning works and so on. I need it for my school report,I’ve been surfing the web,but all I got are hotspot defintions and hotspot detector gadgets.
Thanks for your future answers.

Start there, then move to Wikipedia for more information on Wireless Networks.
But for a quick burst of information, the routers with Broadcasting enabled, announce their presence with the wireless signal, and that broadcast has their basic information (SSID, encryption type, IP information), and it contendedly just spews that out all the time.
When a computer/laptop returns that signal with matching information, a connection is made between the two, allowing for the transfer of data; which can be anything from a song over iTunes, a file on another computer, or even a full connection to the Internet itself.
