My husband, Jovani, teaches our son, Alex, age 6, to surf in Hanalei, Kauai. My husband is Pacific-Islander. Our son is Hapa Haole. Toward the end of the video, you see Alex running through some tropical gardens in Kauai. In one shot, he is running so fast, he is just a blur…yup, that’s typical Alex. On his report card, his teacher used to write: “Walk!” (Well, actually, she wrote: “Caminando!” because Alex is studying/learning Spanish.) I’m sure Alex is thinking “Why walk when you can run?!”) In the end, you see Alex running up to greet his Dad, who has just come in from surfing.

Q&A: Which is better for a 3 day Hawaiian vacation – Maui, Kauai, or the Big Island?
I’m going there in August with my wife and 2 kids (ages 5 and 6).
I’ve been to Oahu already and want to see another island.
Any recommendations among these 3?
I will be renting a car so I’d like to drive around the island and see as much as possible in 3 days.
Not interested in scuba diving/snorkeling/surfing.
Just need rest and relaxation, fun in the sun and on the beaches.
I’d like to see a lot of the island’s beauty and maybe a volcano.

Hi, my family is planning to go to Hawaii in August, and we are trying to decide which island to visit. We’re basically debating between Kauai and Maui (but if you think another island is better for us, let me know 
)
In general, I know that Kauai is more peaceful, less commercialized (but not at an uncomfortable level), more tropical/scenic/lush… whereas Maui is also very nice and scenic but more crowded.
This is the first time we’ll be going to Hawaii. It’ll just be me and my parents; I’ll be 16.
Top priorities:
Really nice beaches (preferably not crowded)
Beautiful scenery (maybe with some nice easy hikes)
Real “Hawaiian” feel
Do not care for:
Shopping
Big resorts
Surfing
Nightlife
It’d be nice if we could go to a Luau and see something cultural, but that isn’t a must. We just want to have some good family fun and see some really nice scenery

Q&A: What to do in Kauai Hawaii?
I’m going there for spring break with my family (My mom, dad, sister(19), and me(13) What are some must see places that we would enjoy? Some good restaurants? ….and some overall best places(best snorkeling, best food, best hotels/condos, best tours, best beaches….and so on. We are not into hiking that much, but we do enjoy snorkeling and my sister and I are interested in taking a surfing class. Any recommendations?

I have a 14 and 12 year old. Which island has better snorkeling, surfing, ect. What are some other activities to do on these islands? Does Maui have a ton of tourist? What do you suggest visiting on these islands?

Question: Maui or Kauai? Want to relax & play.?
I am planning a trip to Hawaii. I have a timeshare and have narrowed it down to Maui or Kauai, just not sure which. We are bringing kids (9 & 11), and we want to relax, explore nature, hike, sight-see, but also love action, adrenaline rushes, sports. So surfing, kayaking, snorkeling, are also desired. I prefer more natural surroundings with not tons of people. Not interested in clubs.
